KG demonstrates how modern spindle technology and edge computing are transforming the machine tool industry with the use case \u2018Edge services for motor spindles\u2019. IIoT-enabled GMN spindles are used in a Danobat-Overbeck grinding machine to record and analyse machine data such as vibrations, temperature and speed in real time via the IDEA-4S embedded system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Potential of machine data analysis<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system processes data directly at the spindle and transmits it securely to an IIoT platform via an IO-Link interface - Data Act-compliant and without direct access to the company network. This opens up new possibilities for process optimisation, predictive maintenance and reducing downtimes. IDEA-4S reacts to critical conditions within milliseconds, such as excessive vibrations, thereby increasing the quality and reliability of production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The digital twin: a new dimension in machine monitoring<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A central element is the digital twin: it visualises the machine as a 3D model in an interactive dashboard, including configuration, running times, service history and environmental indicators such as CO\u2082 footprint. Changes to the hardware are automatically updated in the model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"right-block\">The use case is part of the ESCOM research project, which is developing a European infrastructure for secure data exchange in accordance with Gaia-X standards.
