On the road to digital transformation in the manufacturing industry: second milestone meeting of the ESCOM project
The ESCOM project is taking the path to digital transformation in the manufacturing industry. The concepts and results of the work presented so far have shown the potential of digitalisation and offered a promising outlook for production and the sovereign exchange of data.
One of the central developments presented by the host Contact Software AG was the digital master in the Asset Administration Shell (AAS), which contains the detailed machine data for data exchange. Contact Software AG not only explained the theoretical principles, but also presented the results live in the ESCOM demonstration environment.
Project partner tvarit GmbH presented the AI analysis model as part of the ESCOM project. In cooperation with the companies GMN Paul Müller Industrie GmbH & Co. KG and Berger Holding GmbH & Co. KG, the project partner specialised in AI solutions for the metalworking industry and developed models for detecting anomalies in the data. These models form the basis for future developments in artificial intelligence within the project.
The application partners presented their progress in the use cases of GMN Paul Müller Industrie GmbH & Co. KG and Berger Holding GmbH & Co. KG. They showed how the concepts of the Digital Master are implemented in practice and what added value they can offer participating companies.
In the workshop part of the project meeting, the participants took a closer look at the sub-model of the Digital Master that had been designed: one important finding of the workshop was that all service data should be covered, microservices such as AI algorithms should be linked and blockchain technology should also be integrated.
Melanie Stolze, research assistant at ifak - Institute for Automation and Communication e.V., summarised the significance of the workshop: "„By working with the application partners, we recognised the need for additional work and the integration of links to microservices such as AI algorithms and blockchain technology. This influences the overall integration architecture with the IOT platform and the edge device for the ESCOM project."
